TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL!

Child sexual abuse is a difficult issue to discuss, for adults and for children. Adults need to be ready to respond if they believe a child is being harmed.

Child sexual abuse is a silent epidemic.

According to the Centers for Disease Control as many as 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18.

According to the Department of Justice in nearly 90% of all cases of child sexual abuse the victim knows the abuser.

Sponsored in part by St. John's Children's Hospital the Children's Advocacy Centers of Illinois has put together the following DVD production entitled "TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL!"

TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL, TELL!

Public Service Announcements

The following Public Service Announcements were produced by the Champaign County Children’s Advocacy Center and A Woman’s Fund, Inc. The first two PSAs focus on the issue of child abuse. In America today, one in three girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. In 9 out of 10 cases, the abuser is someone they know. If you know a child you think is being abused, we urge you to contact the Statewide Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Hotline at 1-800-25-ABUSE(1-800-252-2873), or your local law enforcement agency. Help is also available from the Champaign County Children’s Advocacy Center at 217-384-1266. Please do not feel that you need “proof” that the child is being abused before you make a report. Leave it to the professionals to investigate the allegations and to make a determination of whether or not the child is being abused.

The final two PSAs focus on the issue of adult relationship violence. In America today, a woman is raped every six minutes. In 9 out of 10 cases, the woman knows her attacker. If you or someone you know is being abused, compassionate care is available from Rape Advocacy, Counseling & Education Services at (217) 344-6298 or (217) 384-4444. Help is also available from your local police department.

All of the actors featured in the PSAs are volunteers. We are grateful for their generous support of this project. We also wish to thank Robin Kaler of the University of Illinois Office of Public Affairs and Insight Media of Champaign for their generous assistance and advice.
