Champaign County Board Redistricting Commission

At the March 18, 2010, meeting of the Champaign County Board, the Board voted to create a separate reapportionment commission to assist in the development of an apportionment plan for the County Board Districts, which is required to occur every 10 years.  The Commission shall consist of eleven members, with 4 County Board members (2 from each party) and 7 Champaign County citizens.  The Redistricting Commission will be meeting on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in open meetings at the Brookens Administrative Center.  The Commission will be preparing redistricting maps to present to the County Board, which has until July 1, 2011 to adopt a new map.

COMPOSITION: 11 Members

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 4 Members shall be members of the Champaign County Board (2 Republicans and 2 Democrats)
  2. 7 Members shall be residents of Champaign County who are currently registered to vote in Champaign County.
SPECIAL PROVISIONS

The County Board is especially interested in applicants who address the following interests or training:  minority communities based on race or ethnic background, agriculture and family farming, rural non-agricultural interests, non-partisan voter organizations, other recognized political parties who have had candidates on the ballot for election to Champaign County Board, business and commercial interests, urban citizens, college or junior college students, labor, expertise in computer analysis of population distribution or other statistical expertise, and independence from any particular political party or political organization.  The County Board also seeks gender balance on boards, commissions, committees, and councils.
