SUMMARY
Manages one of four divisions of the probationary service programs or other court-supervised programs including youth detention.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
May perform as the Chief Juvenile Officer in the implementation and supervision of juvenile probationary services. Assigns cases to staff, monitors the performance for adherence to court and state standards and procedures. Provides guidance and expertise to staff and may manage a small case load.
May perform as Chief Adult Officer or Supervisor of Intensive Probationary Surveillance Services for adult offenders including felony probationers and probationers. Assigns cases and supervises staff engaged in performing intensive review and surveillance of offenders. Monitors staff performance for adherence to court and state standards and procedures and provides guidance and expertise.
Prepares reports on case data, offender violations and statistical reports on case management activities for the Circuit Court, the Department of Court Services and the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts. Serves warrants for arrest as required.
May monitor clients for drug usage and/or subsequent treatment. Reviews work performance of clients and continued employment, ensuring the maintenance of a known residence and monitoring clients for violations of the law and/or program compliance.
Reviews surveillance procedures including staff conducting unannounced home and employment visits, perform curfew checks and verify drug treatment and/or social service program participation by offenders.
Maintains program and case records and prepares statistical and written reports on clients and program activities. Prepares professional case recommendations for superiors and/or the Circuit Court.
Coordinates probationary or juvenile detention services with those of other social service agencies to ensure that court-ordered conditions are met by offenders and parents of juveniles when applicable.
May perform as the Superintendent of the Youth Detention Center supervising the staff of the specialized, locked-door facility for the confinement of juveniles. Prepares monthly work schedule for the 24-hour detention staff. Monitors the facility for adherence to state standards and local and fire safety codes.
Compiles detention center statistics as Superintendent of the Youth Detention Center in accordance with state and local standards and ensures the implementation of procedures and security of juveniles and staff.
Maintains extensive contact with other Court Services Supervisors, judges of the Circuit Court, the administrative office of the Illinois courts, social service agencies, State's Attorney's office and defense attorneys.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 5 - 25 employees in surveillance, probationary services, investigation activities or youth detention. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the County and the Circuit Court policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and recommending for hire and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or higher from a four-year college or university with a major in Criminal Justice and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, clients and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

EASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal office conditions. Potential problems may exist with clients who have not met the standards of their probation and are subject to detention or further sanctions as may be imposed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
