On Thursday, June 15, 2006 @ 1:30 p.m., at a press conference, Sheriff Walsh will announce that Kris Bolt, a 20 year veteran of CCSO and currently a Captain, will assume the position of Chief Deputy effective Sunday, June 18, 2006.

As of Friday, June 16, any matters that would normally be referred to Chief Deputy Wolfe should go to Kris Bolt.

A local resident just contacted us. He received a phone call from a man claiming to be from the local Sheriff’s Office and soliciting donations for the “annual fundraiser.” Depending upon how much money was donated, the donor would receive a gold, silver or bronze sheriff’s star to put on his car window.

The resident asked the solicitor to send information about the fundraiser in the mail. The solicitor said he could not do that and the conversation ended.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is NOT conducting any fundraiser. The Illinois Sheriff’s Association does not do any telephone solicitations.

If anyone gets such a phone call do not give out any personal or credit card information, but if you can get an address and phone as to where to send a donation please call the Sheriff’s Office with that information. (Ph384-1205)
